The following model answers have been prepared in response to typical part two and part three questions for the IELTS Speaking test. Note that in part two of the test you are given topic to talk about for 2 minutes. This topic relates to yourself. Part three of the test follows on from the same topic in part two but the focus switches to people in general. You can use the model answers below to familiarise yourself with the tests and also as models for answering the questions.

You should say:

– what festival it is

– why it is important

– what do people usually do on that festival

and explain how important it is for you personally

DESCRIBE A POSITIVE CHANGE THAT YOU MADE TO YOUR LIFE

You should say:

– what the change is

– why it was important to  make the change

– how you made the change

and explain how important this positive this change is

DESCRIBE AN ATTRACTIVE OUTDOOR PLACE YOU VISITED AS A CHILD.

You should say:

– where this place is

– when and how you went there

– what the place looked like

and say what you found attractive about this place.

DESCRIBE A PIECE OF GOOD NEWS THAT YOU RECEIVED

You should say:

– what the good news is

– how you heard about it

– why this news was good

and explain how important this news is for you personally

DESCRIBE A SPECIAL GIFT YOU HAVE GIVEN

You should say:

– what the gift was

– who you gave this gift to

– why you gave this gift

and explain what was most special about this gift

DESCRIBE A TEACHER YOU LIKED.

You should say

– who this person was

– when they were your teacher

– which subject they taught you

and explain why you liked this teacher

DESCRIBE A GOOD FEATURE OF YOUR PERSONALITY

You should say:

– what the feature is

– why it is a good feature

– how this feature has benefited you

and explain how important this feature is for your future

DESCRIBE THE PERSON WHO YOU MOST LIKE TO SPEND TIME WITH

You should say:

– who the person is

– why you like to spend time with them

– how much time you spend with them

and explain why this is the person you most like to spend time with

DESCRIBE A GIFT YOU RECEIVED THAT MADE YOU HAPPY

You should say:

– what the gift is

– who gave it to you

– how you used the gift

and explain why this gift made you happy

Describe something old that your family has kept

You should say:

– what the thing is

– what it looks like

– what it is used for

and explain why your family has kept this thing for a long time
