Our team consists of six former official IELTS examiners with experience assessing IELTS Speaking and Writing. Members of the team have between 5 and 20 years of examining experience and are based in different countries and time zones.

Real Former IELTS Examiners

Your students receive assessment and feedback from people with genuine previous IELTS examining experience.

No AI-Generated Assessment

Each Speaking test is conducted by a real person, and each Writing task is individually read, assessed and corrected by a former IELTS examiner.

Human Judgement Matters

IELTS performance cannot always be reduced to automated error detection.

A student may use grammatically accurate language but still fail to develop an argument effectively. Another student may communicate ideas clearly despite making some language errors.

Experienced human assessors can consider the complete performance, rather than simply identifying individual grammatical or vocabulary mistakes.

We are deliberately not a large automated marking company.

We work with a small group of experienced former examiners so that we can maintain the quality and consistency of the service.

White-Label Service

Our Speaking and Writing services can operate behind your own IELTS programme. This allows you to expand the services you offer without needing to recruit and manage your own examiner team.

Flexible Scheduling

Our examiners are based in different locations and time zones, giving us greater flexibility when arranging mock Speaking tests.

Service 1: IELTS Mock Speaking Tests with Former Examiners

Give your students the opportunity to experience a realistic IELTS Speaking mock test and receive detailed feedback on their performance.

Every Speaking test is conducted live with a real former IELTS examiner.

There are no AI interviewers, automated questions or computer-generated Speaking scores.

Each appointment lasts approximately 30 minutes.

The student first completes an approximately 14-minute mock Speaking test, following the same three-part structure used in IELTS Speaking:

Part 1 — Introduction and Interview

Part 2 — Individual Long Turn

Part 3 — Two-way Discussion

After the mock test, the examiner uses the remaining time to discuss the student’s performance, explain important weaknesses and suggest ways to improve.

What Your Student Receives

Each student receives:

  • a complete three-part IELTS-style Speaking mock test;
  • assessment by a real former IELTS examiner;
  • an estimated overall IELTS Speaking band score;
  • estimated scores for all four Speaking assessment criteria;
  • detailed verbal feedback;
  • written feedback;
  • identification of important strengths and weaknesses;
  • advice on how to improve their performance;
  • an opportunity to ask questions about their Speaking performance.

The four areas assessed are:

Fluency and Coherence
Lexical Resource
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
Pronunciation

The purpose is not simply to give the student a score.

A student may already suspect that their Speaking is around Band 6 or Band 6.5. What is much more valuable is understanding why they are at that level and what they need to change to move towards a higher band score.

That is where individual feedback from an experienced former examiner can be particularly useful.

Human Feedback, Not an Automated Score

AI can generate a band estimate within seconds.

However, an estimated number alone does not necessarily tell a student what happened during their performance.

A former examiner can listen to how the student develops answers, reacts to unfamiliar questions, maintains fluency, communicates meaning and uses language throughout the conversation.

The examiner can then explain the student’s most important weaknesses directly to them.

Your student is not simply receiving a computer-generated result.

They are speaking to an experienced human assessor who can listen, evaluate and respond to their individual performance.

Give Your Students a More Realistic Test Experience

Many students practise Speaking with teachers, friends, AI applications or other students. These can all be useful forms of practice, but they do not reproduce the experience of being assessed by an experienced human examiner.

A mock test with a former IELTS examiner gives students an opportunity to practise responding under pressure and then receive professional feedback immediately afterwards.

For IELTS schools and teachers, it can also provide an independent human assessment of a student’s current level.

This can be particularly useful:

  • before the student’s real IELTS test;
  • at the beginning of an IELTS preparation course;
  • after completing a period of study;
  • when a student appears to be stuck at a particular band;
  • when a teacher wants an independent assessment of a student’s Speaking level.

Service 2: Human IELTS Writing Correction and Examiner Feedback

Writing is one of the most difficult IELTS skills to assess accurately.

There are now many AI tools that can correct grammar, suggest vocabulary and even generate an estimated IELTS band score.

Our service is different.

Every Writing task is read, assessed and corrected by a real former IELTS examiner.

We do not use AI to mark the student’s Writing or generate the feedback.

Students can submit either Writing Task 1 or Writing Task 2 separately.

We assess both:

  • IELTS Academic Writing
  • IELTS General Training Writing

What Your Student Receives

For each Writing task, the student receives:

  • assessment by a real former IELTS examiner;
  • an estimated overall band score;
  • a score for each of the four relevant IELTS Writing assessment criteria;
  • grammar corrections;
  • vocabulary corrections;
  • comments throughout the response;
  • feedback on organisation and coherence;
  • feedback on how effectively the task has been answered;
  • overall examiner comments;
  • identification of the main weaknesses affecting the student’s score;
  • practical advice about how to improve future writing.

For Writing Task 2, the assessment covers:

For Academic Writing Task 1, Task Achievement is assessed instead of Task Response.

When students use Writing tasks provided by IELTSanswers, a model answer can also be provided.

Why Human Writing Assessment Still Matters

AI is useful for many purposes, particularly for identifying basic grammatical errors or suggesting alternative vocabulary.

However, IELTS Writing assessment involves considerably more than checking whether individual sentences are grammatically correct.

A human examiner considers questions such as:

  • Has the candidate actually answered the question?
  • Are the main ideas sufficiently developed?
  • Is the position clear throughout the essay?
  • Are examples relevant and convincing?
  • Is information logically organised?
  • Is vocabulary accurate and natural in context?
  • Does the candidate demonstrate enough grammatical range?
  • In Academic Task 1, has the candidate identified and presented the important features?
  • In General Training Task 1, is the tone appropriate for the situation?

These decisions require judgement about the response as a whole.

That is why every piece of Writing submitted through our service is personally assessed by a former IELTS examiner.

More Than Grammar Correction

A useful IELTS Writing correction service needs to do considerably more than identify grammatical errors.

A grammatically accurate essay can still receive a disappointing IELTS score if the candidate:

  • does not answer all parts of the question;
  • does not develop ideas sufficiently;
  • organises information poorly;
  • uses vocabulary inaccurately;
  • writes an unclear overview in Academic Task 1;
  • uses an inappropriate tone in General Training Task 1;
  • or fails to demonstrate the language required for a higher band.

For this reason, our feedback considers the complete response using the relevant IELTS assessment criteria.

Fast Turnaround — Without Automated Marking

Writing corrections are normally completed within 24 hours.

The fast turnaround does not mean that the work is automatically processed.

For Speaking, we arrange a suitable appointment with one of our former examiners.

For Writing, the student’s task is sent to us for assessment.

4. A Real Former Examiner Assesses the Student

There is no automated marking stage.

For Speaking, the student speaks directly with an examiner.

For Writing, an examiner personally reads and assesses the student’s work.

5. Human Feedback Is Provided

The student receives detailed feedback, scores and advice based on the examiner’s individual assessment.
