I’m a little confused about how many different types of questions there are. I have seen some teachers say 3, some 4, and even some 6.

The key is to use lots of complex sentences.
Understanding Complex Sentences in Essay Writing
A complex sentence is a sentence that contains one independent clause and at least one dependent clause. In essay writing, especially for exams like IELTS, using complex sentences can help demonstrate your proficiency in English and your ability to convey intricate ideas effectively.Components of a Complex Sentence
Independent Clause: This clause can stand alone as a complete sentence. It contains a subject and a predicate and expresses a complete thought.
Dependent Clause: This clause cannot stand alone as a complete sentence. It provides additional information to the independent clause and usually begins with a subordinating conjunction (e.g., although, because, since, unless, while).
How to Form Complex Sentences
Identify the Main Idea: Determine the primary thought you want to convey, which will be your independent clause.
Add Additional Information: Introduce a dependent clause that adds detail, context, or a contrasting idea to your main idea.
Use Subordinating Conjunctions: Connect the dependent clause to the independent clause using appropriate subordinating conjunctions.
Examples of Complex Sentences for IELTS Essay Writing
Expressing Contrast:“Although many people argue that technology has led to a decrease in face-to-face communication, it has undeniably improved access to information and resources.”
“While some individuals believe that strict parenting results in well-behaved children, others argue that it can lead to rebellious behaviour.”
Providing Reasons:“Many students choose to study abroad because they believe it offers better educational opportunities.”
“Governments should invest in renewable energy sources since fossil fuels are depleting and harming the environment.”
Highlighting Conditions:“If public transport were more reliable, fewer people would rely on their cars.”
“Unless measures are taken to curb pollution, urban areas will continue to suffer from poor air quality.”
Adding Additional Information:“The university offers a wide range of courses, which attracts students from all over the world.”
“The new policy, which aims to reduce plastic waste, has been well-received by environmentalists.” -

I am wondering why in the “outweigh” type of topic, it is better to write a paragraph on concession, but in “agree/disagree,” one being totally agree or totally disagree will be preferred. Thanks!

I totally agree with what you said about the outweigh essay.
I somewhat agree with what you said about the agree/disagree essay.
For people who need band 7 and would like band 8 I agree.
For people who MUST get at least band 8 or 9 it may be better to use a “somewhat agree” approach for some topics.
