  Hello from Vietnam,
  
  I read IELTS Simon’s sample essays (he is very famous in Vietnam) and find that the language he used in his samples are very basic. I want to ask Mike that how can I get band 9 in writing like him if I use very basic vocabulary?

  In my opinion, you can not get band 9 with basic vocabulary only, and this is supported by the grading criteria. Link below:
