Football Vocabulary

1. Pass
To send the ball to another player on your team.

2. Shoot
To kick the ball towards the goal in order to score.

3. Dribble
To move forward while keeping control of the ball with your feet.

4. Tackle
To challenge an opponent and try to win the ball from them.

5. Offside
A rule offence that happens when an attacking player is too close to the opponent’s goal before the ball is played to them.

6. Striker
A player whose main role is to attack and score goals.

7. Midfielder
A player who usually plays in the central area of the pitch and helps both the attack and the defence.

8. Defender
A player whose main responsibility is to stop the other team from scoring.

9. Substitute
A player who comes into the game to replace another player.

10. Corner
A kick taken from the corner of the pitch after the ball has crossed the goal line and was last touched by a defending player.
